General Situation
a. Operation CASTLE will be recorded on film, still and motion pic-ture as a basis for:

(1) A tasx force commander's visual report to «EO and the JCS of

Operation CASTLE.

(2) A short film (so called “quickies") to be available as soon

after each shot as possible.

(3) Additional footage required in the s-oduction of a film

depicting the history of weapons development.

(4) A technical report film (approximately 45 mimuter) depicting

Armed Porees participation in CASTLE.

(5) Required technical coverage.
(6) A photographic record for historical purposes.
(7) A short, unclassified version of (1) above (approximately

15 minutes).

The JCS have established a military requiresd@&t for the USAF

Lookout Mountain Leboratory to support CASTLE and Hq, USAF has
approved its employment to support a technical report photography
unit in 1 7 i.
Technical Report Photography Requirements
a. Sufficient motion picture and still coverage of events will be
accomplished to produce the following:

(1) Tne CJTP SEVEN visual report to the AEC and the JCS.

This

film, approximately forty-five (45) minutes 1n duration, will contain only a Limited amount of technical details and will be classified not higher than SECRET. The extent of technical coverage will
be governed by the classification conditions at the time the film is
produced, It will be tailored for wide distribution to persons con~
cerned with supporting the AEC but who do not require extensive

veennea information (Congressmen, Bureau of the Budget officials,
etc.).

(2) A shor, film produced after each shot to provide quick vis-

ual information to Commissionera ani other AIS personnel.

These

will be tailored to provide more detailed information than the cus—
tomary post-shot statement of yield and degree of success normally
provides.

Speed of production will be the keynote.
