At 1300 the party departed Ujelang and arrived at Ponape at 1500,

quarters, made arrangements for meals and proceeded to Distad Headquarters to
confer with Mr. Finale, the acting Distad. In company of Messrs. Sullivan and
Hirada, the party made an inspection of the weather station and determined the
following to be the present condition of the station.
WEATHER STATION = PONAPE

1. The weather station building, which is being operated by the U.3,

Weather Bureau, appears to be in very good condition structurally.
A small amount of dry rot occurs at the base of the stair posts and
Mr, Hirada intends to have the posts incased in concerete approxi-

mately 12" above the footings. During windy rainstorms, a small
portion of the roof develops slight leaks. This he proposes to
repair with mastic and metal flashing.

Mr. Hirata further proposes

to build a amall shelter to house an emergency generator.

This will keep the station operable during p ower failures at the
main plant,
