Abstract: A study was undertaken to reexamine thyroid abserbed dese
estimates far pecple accidentally exposed ta fallout at Rongelap, 3ifs, and
Utirik Islands frem the Pacific weapon test known as Operaticn Castle
BRAVO. The study included: (1) reevaiuation of radicchemical analysis, to
rélate results from posled urine to intake, retention, and excretion
functions; (2) analysis of neutron-irradiation studies of archival <oil
samples, ts estimate areal activities af the iodine isctepes: (3) analysis
ef source term, weather data, and metecrolegical functions used in
predicting atmospheric diffusior and fallout deposition, to estimate
airberne concentrations of tre iodine isatepes: and (4) reevaluation of
radicective fallout. which contaminated a Tapanese fishing vessel in che
vicinity of Songsiap felend on March 1, 1954, tc determine fallout
comsonerte. The cenclusions of the acute exnceure study were that the
