The peaks would be higher if it were practioal to plot the portions of the ourve corresponding to the weapons tent periods. In interpret'ng the curve it 1s useful to keep in mind that the biological or indc.trial effect of the fallout depends on a cumulative dose which 1s g:tater fur old fission products then for equal sotivity in the form of young, relatively unstable, fission products. Fluctuations in cumulative dose would have lesa amplitude than the fluotuactone in activity shown in Figure 2.lh.
