REMARKS:
The on-site fallout pattern was drawn from island readings taken by
scientific project 2.65 supplemented by fallout sample collection on
rafts and barges in the lagoon.
The measured field decay expontne
was used to extrapolate the dose-rate readings to I41 hour.
It
was observed that the water adjacent to the benches of the northern
islauds cf the atoli was pene.ally much more hishly contaminuted than
the islands.
The off-site fallout pattern was drawn from oceanographic surveys.
he oceanographic surveys used detector probes for measuring the doserate at the surtace, plus the allied equipment necessary for measuring
the dose-rate at depths to and below the thermocline (watcor-sampling
equipment for the taking of surface samples and for the collection of
samples from any desired depth).
The dose-rate readings were extrapolated
Lo WL hour by using the decay measurements ot the samples collected.
The portion of fullout that penetrated below the thermosline is unknown.
Rather than attempt to estimate the percentage, the results t'or the
dose rates assume no ponetration beyond the depth «© mixing.
