Dr. Charles L. Dunham, Director
Division of Biology and Medicine
U. S. Atomic Energy Commission
Washington 25, D.C.
Dear Dr. Dunham:
Mr. Strauss has written me a letter concerning the Japanese fisherman who died subsequent to radiation exposure
during Castle-Bravo.
In a book which Dr. Teller and I are writing on the general subject of radioactivity we have stated that the
fisherman died "presumably due to radiation exposure."
Mr. Strauss indicated that the actual cause of death
was hepatitis and probably unrelated to the radiation
dosage. Dr. Tellier and I would be extremely grateful
to you if you have any further details or comments concerning
this incident.
Sincerely yours,
{ "
