JMT (DOE contractor) Country of Publication: United States Abstract: An overview is presented of the many studies that have been conducted at Eniwetok on reef community processes, making major contributions to an understanding of these processes. These studies have also influenced the context in which many ecologists think about reef systems. Attention is focused on community metabolism, calcification processes at the ecosystem and organismal level, as well as nitrogen and phosphorus cycling. In addition, the role of detritus, coral nutrition, and ecological relationships of reef fishes are discussed.
