Radicochemical separations were made on selected samples of biclogical
materials from the Pacific Proving Ground. The isotopes in the separated
fractions were identified by their half lives, maximum beta energies, and
gamma energies. In addition ta radicactive fission preducts, the
non-fission radicisatepes, p 57/, Ca/sup 58/, Ca/sup 60/, and fn/sup 45/,
were identified in scme samples. The latter isotepes accounted for almast
all of the radicactivity in the zcological samples of marine crigin.

The ecology of the Pacific Atolls of Bikini and Eniwetck is described.
Results are summarized from studies on the distribution of fission preducts
in the biota. The contributions of these studies to a better understanding
of life zones of coral atolls, the economy of the sea, and fundamental
concepts of biological sciences are discussed.
