Phate 4.68 (X00, Hae) Rpidernmas: Extensive tiomsepidernid dimape with less involved zones on either side. I, Loose Lomnation of stratum corneum, absence of stratum granulosum,. Porakeratinizition with exfoliation of pigment contuming cells. Disarganizition af the malpushin ayer. Dermis: Mold edemaof pars papillacis with indistinet capillary loops. Moderitely pronounced perivascular cellukur infiltrate (iymphocytes and mononuclear phagocytes), in superficial cortam wilh mold felangiectiasis, Plate 3.19 (X100, H&E) Epidecmis: Arcades of minimal damage eceur mn relation to excretory ducts of sweat lands. Si ratum granulosum of good width and shows scant alteration. Underlying strutum malpighi shows marked decrease in pysment. In the deeper portion of the overlying, loosely daminated stratum corneum moderate amounts of pigment, however, are present. One narrow arcade of more severe transepiderm:d damage shows alteration of the stratum granulosum with intercellular edma, py knosis, swollen nuclet, gnd pigment scattered throughout. ‘Phe latter is especially dense in the contiguous purakeratotic material. Dermis: A moderate celludar infiltrate, chiefly perivascular, is most pronounced in the superficial pars reticularis where there is a mild telangiectasia. a Phite 3.20 (X400, H&E) (Case #26) ‘Pransepidermal damage with disorganization of the mal- pighian laver. Stratum granulosum absent, Malpighian and basal layer only two to three celle thick with exfoliation of payment outward toward parukeratinized zone adjacent to stratum corneum, Payment laden chromatophores and histiocyies in pars papillaris of corium. Latter is edematous and infiltrated by moderate numbers of lymphocytes, mononucieuwr phagocytes and scattered papmented leukocytes. Capillary loops tudistinet. Plate 3.21 (X100, H&E, (Cisne #63) Transepidermal ciumage with disorganization of the mal- pighian layer. Slipht parstkeratosts. Migration or exfoliation outward of pigment. Loose lamination of stratum corneum. Pigment laden chromatophores and histiocytes in superficial pars pupifiiaris of cormm.
