when Typhoon KESTER struck ENIWETOK ISLND causing vatensive damage.
A survey was conducted by this section to ascertain the damage in-

curred and to recommend the priority cf work to be established,
projects were established and project officcrs assigned.

Section supervised these work’ prejects and provided the necessary
engincer equipment and personnel,

Tho conclusion of these projects

left the island ready to prepsre for CASTLE.
In carly July 1953 studics and plang had been develeped
for the logistical euppert which would be required by the comund
for CASTLE,

It had tecn duterminod that the construc vion of adai=

ticnal housing, recrcational fucilities, and Air Force ml Navy
operational installations would be required since air operations
would bo conducted on ENT.ETOXK and not on KYAJALEIN as in IVY.

These

+ constructicn requirenents wore approved by CJTF SEVEN, and AEC issued
a serics of wrk orders to thoir civilian contractors for their aucomplishment.

In Scptembor 1953, based upon ® survey conducted by

the Enginecr Officer, TG 7.2,,.1¢ was determined that the construction
‘of thoso fueilities could not be completed prior to the operational
period without the assistznee of milit-ry personnel,

The Commander,

TG 7.2, urdered that work gpfains would bo drawn from Task Group units
and al located to cach of these projects.

Since a portion of these

projects involved the construction of Air Force facilities, USAF person=
nel wore requested end received frau 4930th Test Support Group to augment
