DECLASSIFICATION OF UNANNOUNCED ATMOSPHERIC TESTS CONDUCTED AT ENIWETOK
In reply to a memorandum dated Aprii 13, 1972, from the Director,
,
Division of Operational Safety, the Commission has declassified the
fact of occurrence of the following eight previously unannounced
Eniwetok shots so that radiological survey reports revealing their

existenée may be declassified:

No specific announcement of the existence of the events is planned and
no other information concerning the shots, such as their yields, is
included in this declassification action.
Because of the complex circumstances connected with the plans being
formulated for the possible return of the atoll to its native
inhabitants, no public release concerning the status of those plans
will be made without the approval of the White House.
The information
concerning the eight listed events which has been declassified is
similar to that provided in "The Effects of Nuclear Weapons" for other
unclassified tests. This information is listed below, It will be used
only in answer to inquiries or for incidental use in technical papers.
