UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA LOS ALAMOS SCIENTIFIC LABORATORY (CONTRACT W-7405-ENG-36) P, 0. BOX 1663 Los Alamos, New Mexico In Reply Refer To: DIR-1019 January 28, 1955 Brig, General K, E. Flelds Director of Military Application i, S, Atomic Energy Commission Washington 25, D, ¢C. Dear General Fields: Reference is made to your TWX No, S~-271 concerning the prospects for Operation DIXIE, The Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory has also become increasingly concerned about this operation, and the following comments, while not firm, are indicative of our thinking at this time. We currently tend to be of the opinion that DIXIE should be postponed until the early part of 1956. Our reasons for this opinion have to do with the necessary time between TEAPOT and DXXT for the assimilation of the results of the former letter and their translation inte practical experiments, as well as with the practical operational problems of J-Division. If DIXIE is so postponed, we see no alternative to a similar postponement in REDWING to a time such as the late Fall of 1956 or even to the early Spring of 1957. . can eratVEELINET CREOMatt aaa sagt ROTM OF oy seem * Sean comeuanin
