Joint Task Force SEVEN

APO 187 c/o Postmaster

San Francisco, California

Annex C to CTG 7.2 Operation Order No. 2-54
INTELLIGENCE, SECURITY AND PUBLIC INFORMATION
1.

INTELLIGENCE - GENERAL:

a.

No interference with the mission of Task Group 7.2 is

expected from an overt enemy action during the interim period

following Operation CASTLE.

b, The USSR and its satellites have given no indication
of relaxing their drive toward world domination and are maintaining
an advanced state of preparedness for war. An overt war with the
Soviet Union would be on a global basis and would involve forces in
the ENIWETOK area,
2. SUMMARY OF ENEMY CAPAZILITIES: It is considered that interference with the mission of Task Group 7.2 or compromise of activi-

ties within ENIWETCK ATOLL could be effected by espionage, sabotage,

overt action by vessel or aircraft, raids, observation, unauthorized

sampling and declaration of war.

a. Naval Capabilities: Due to the isolation of the ENIWETOK area surface action is discounted as a means of attack by an
enemy in this area. It is estimated that 4-6 ocean patrol submarines

could be maintainéd in the ENIWETOK area indefinitely and this -num-

ber could be increased for short periods of time. Unobserved submarine approach to within one mile of the atoll is possible. —
b.

Ground Capabilities:

No ground capadilities exist for

any potential enemies in the ENTWETOK area.

It is conceivable that

-

small raiding parties, either air or submarine transported, could

operate in the area for short periods of time.
c.

Air Capabilities:

Aerial photo and radiological

reconnaissance missions: over the ENIWETOK area from SAKHALIN or the
KURILES are within Soviet capabilities.
3. CONCLUSIONS OF ENEMY CAPABILITIES: Espionage, sacotage,
observation and unauthorized sampling are considered most likely to
occur under conditions existing today. In the event of general hos~
tilities, action by the enemy in the ENIWETOK area would consist.

initially of the following, in the order of probability:

a. Raids and possible landingsby. small forces of enemy
personnel from submarines.
b.

“¢.
landings.

Aerial reconnaissance,

Attack by armed aircraft to include possible paratroop

4. ESSENTIAL ELEXENTS OF INFORMATION: All JTF SEVEN personnel
in the ENIVETOK area will advise CTIG 7.2 of:
ae

the ENITETOK Closed Area as defined in paragraph la (3), this order.
