Ship and Boat ¥MLs:

(1)

It is desired to point out that the employment of the ships

and units in TG 7,3, insofar as radiological safety 1s concerned, is not
considered routine usage within the purview of NavMed P-1325, "Radiological
Safety wesulations", Current revision of NavMed P-1325 indicates that its
provisiona do not apply for special operations such as field tests and that
for such operetions naval personnel will operate under reculations set forth
by the Task Force Commander as approved by the Chief of Navel Operetions.
(2) In general, ships and beets eperating in waters near shot
sitea after snot times nay become contaminated, Monitors shall be aboard
all such craft operating after shot tine, either as passengers or members
of the crew, until such tine as radiological restrictions are lifted,
(3)

Tesk Unit Commanders shall teke necessary action to ensure that

personnel of ships cand beats are not over-cxposed to radiction and tnat
ships end boats are not contaminated excessively, The criterion in both

cases is that ne personnel shall be over-exposed as defined by paragraph
3a above, except in emergencies or tactical cperations, and that after the
operational peried no persennel shall receive nore than 6,3 roentgen per
week,

(4) For snips and beats operating in contaminated waters, reeson~
able allowences snall be nade to differentiate between the relative con
tribution to the total flux from fixed contansination end that due to

"Shine" fron contaminated waters,

Fixed alpha contauinatien should not

exceed 2500 dpi (disintegrations per uinute) per 15@ em” of area for enclesed areas (cabins, etc.) and 500C dpn per 15@ en® area for epen surfaces
where ventilation is good,

(5)

At the conclusion of the operation, final clearances will be

eérented by the Task Group Conmander, or by Commanding Officers if so ordered,

to those snips cnd boats showing no point of contamination greater than
15 nr/day (beta and ganma) and no detectable alpha, Other ships end boats
will be granted eperational clearances by the Task Group Commender, or by
Commanding Cfficers if so ordered, An operational clearance implies that
conteninetion exists and that special procedures es necessary are instituted
aboord ship.
