1,

The Maxirmn Permissible Exposures (MrBs) and Maxinur. rervissible

idiiaits (HvLs) as stated herein cre applicable to a field experimental test
of nuclear devices in peecetine wherein numbers of personnel engared in
these tests hrve been previously exposed or will be continuously exposed
to potential radiation hazards,
It may become necessary from c study of
personnel records to reduce the MrE for certain individuals who heve

recently been ever~exposed to radinticn,

Further, the MPEs and Mrlg are

subject to revision by waiver fron the Task Ferce Conmander in individually
designated ceses when clreunstences indicate the need and Justifiertion
therefore.

2.

Due to the special nature of field teats it is considered that a policy

of strict adherence to the radiological standerds prescribed for routine
work ig not realistic, The regul: tions set forth herein hrve been designed
es 2 reasonable and safe compronise considering conservrtion of personnel
exposures, tne internationel impert of the test and the cost aspects of
operational aelevs eharzeeble to excessive radiological precnutions, In
all cases other than emergencies or tretical situntions, the ultinate
criteria will be linited by the MPEs for personnel, Special instances nay
orise such as in the case of an air~sea rescue within the Headex, or in the

tactical operations the criteria prescribed below for tactical situations
will be used as a euide. Wherever possible, however, film badges will te
carried end KedScfe monitors will accompany such operations to determine
tne extent of the aetucl radiation hazerd experienced in erder thet
appropriate medical action may be initiated,

(eanma only), Tris exposure ney be acquired at any time during a thirteen

(13) week period.

Yrovided no previous over-exposure reneins for com

pensrtion, 3.9 roentgens nay be cequired without regard to the individuals
past rediction history, Tnis MrE will be considered further augmented
(without separete oetion) by 0,3 roentgens/week f or eacn week in excesa of

thivyteen (13) weeks of the operational period,

b. All exposure to external gamma rredintion will be regarded as total
