we bave undertaken a study of cur capebility to meet this acceleration of time scales and that we will advise the DOD of its
results as soon as it is cowoleted. Further, Tab B indicates
that as a first step toward meeting the new time scales, we
have authorized UCRL to plan to fire in HARDTACK, subject to
later Commission approval, at least one additional large yield
(300-1000 KT) shot and possibly another shot of similar yield.

You will note that these revisions in our testing program have
resulted in a net addition of one shat and one contingent shot
(two shots if the contingency deseribed in subparagraph (g) of
feb B materializes). We are presently examining our HARDTACK
program to datermine exact cost increase resulting from this

revised testing program.
“Our field agencies have been requested to advise us of the
impact of this POLARIS speed-up on other weapon prograns.
