Joint Task Force SEVEN will reestablish the interim garrison
force at ENWIETOK. The intcrim garrison force will consist
of an Army, a Navy, and an Air Force element with personnel
and equipment remaining in the forward area, and ‘overall

command being exercised by an Atoll Commander (ATCOM).

Joint

Task Force SEVEN (JTF SEVEN) Operation Order No. 2-54 pro-

vides that upon the departure of Commnder, Joint Task Force

SEVEN and major elements of the task force from the forward

area, Commander Task Group 7.2 (CTG 7.2) will assume Tespon=
sibilities of ATCOM.
(3) Task Group 7.4 will reestablish the air element on ENIWETOK
during the interim between Operation CASTILE and Operation
REDWING to continue preparation for the latter operation. |
Integrated control of the Air Force element in the forward |
area will be exercised by the Commander, Test Support Unit,

In the Spring of 1956, Joint Task Force SEVEN will conduct
Operation REDWING, an Atomic Energy Commission (AEC), Depare~
ment of Defense (DOD) operation which will be similar to

CaSTLE.

It is contemplated that the air effort will again

require the use of ENIWETOKAtoll; therefore roll-up for
CASTIE and interim preparation for REDWING require concurrent
coordinated plamning.

During transformation of the forward area to interim status,
the AEC will retain responsibility to operate, manage, and
direct camp facilities at the Pacific Proving Ground, less
facilities on ENIWETOK Islend charged to other units. The
Armed Forces will continue to be responsible for military

operations including communic:tions, mail, military security

and defense, care of milit:ry equipment in the custody of the
Armed Forces, weather reporting snd forecasting, inter and

intra-atoll airlift, and logistical support of these-activities.

toading and off-loading cargo from ships to shore at ENIWETOK
Island will be the responsibility of the military with assistance provided by Task Group 7.5 on all other islands. The
