This letter is written to obtain approval for executing the fullscale atomic test program planned to begin on March 1,
195h,
and
scheduled to extend through April 195), at the Pacific Proving
Grounds.
CASTII, the code name assigned to the operation, has

been planned in coordination with the Department of Defense and | |
‘that agency has designated Joint Task Force SEVEN to support the |
Atomic Iknergy Commission in the execution of the test.
The
Department of Defense has coordinated with the Atomic Energy
Commission in formulating a weapons effects vrogram which will
be executed in conjunction with the test series. It is plamed
