At the request of the DOE DBER and DOES,LLL scientists assess the potential
doses to populations at Enewetak Atoll from transuranic radionuclides. The study
provides dosage estimates to the population via various exposure pathways, such as
the marine pathway, the inhalation pathway, the terrestrial food chain, and
groundwater. The predicted dose rates for the southern islands and Enjebi Island do
not exceed the 1 mrad/yr to lung nor the 3 mrad/yr to bone guidance proposed by
the EPA.
