Baseline medical information will have to be collected on persons scheduled to return to Eniwetok. As a separate effort in FY 1980 it may be necessary to do a medical survey of some 600 persons present at Likiep in 1954 with an additional cost of 1 MB. FY 81 will, depending on medical findings, include persons of Uterik, Rongelap, Bikinians on Majuro and Kili, and 600 persons on Likiep. It is also anticipated that based on radiological surveillance results other population groups (unknown number) may have to be included. budget number for The FY 1980 represents this anticipated expansion of the Pacific program. A separate problem arises by more than tripling the population in FY 80 or 8} and that is travel between the islands. The presently chartered ship is inadequate to accommodate an expanded program. If adequate medical surveillance is to be conducted, it is essential that funds be made available during FY 80 for purchase of a 175 foot ship. The estimated cost for the ship and furnishings is $1,5000,000-2,000,000.
