The basic radislogical survey of Enewetak was done in 19/2-73 and
the AEC Task Group began its twwrlh on cleanup criteria concurrenrly
with this survey.
The basic reco.mendations trom AEC were issued
dn the 1974 Task Group report.
This repore and che information in
the Enewetax Environmencal Impact Stacemenc (£15) that was based on
this report are now four vears oid.
Ouring that four years nore
radiological measurements have been made in the atoll than durin
all other surveys combined.
We believe, therefore, ic is fortunate tnere have not been more changes in the original AEC. recommenGactions than the one change on planting coconuts.

There has been no other

hasilicacion of Enewetak Atoll and recommended radioiogicai

for cleanup were fixed with the issuance of the AEC Task Group revere
in 1974.
There has been no need for a change in either of these.
AEC's approach, and DOE has faliowed the tame, has been co view
this project as a practical problem in r:
slogical precection. ror
an engineering task.
Thus, the philosophy used is the ohiloscpny
associated with curtens radiacion protection standards that are
issued to guise Federal agencies in their radiation prorection
activities.

In applying Federal standaras, the Task Group selecced 30 percent

of the annual doses for indivituals in the general public ane &C

ing land use options and fcr planning.
