Dear John,
I am enclosing lists of exposed Rongelap and Utirik people with
as many last names as we have available and the island of location
and deaths as of last March. The missing numbers (2133 and 2173) were
due to omissions in numbering at the time of the first examination.
Number 2261X was added since he claims he was on Utirik during the
fallout and left on a ship. There is some uncertainty about 2260X
who claims to have been exposed and was added since one of our original
157 was missing.
We are trying to clarify this.
You will note that Sec. 104 (a) (1) of the Act does not include
provision for people who have or have had thyroid nodules without
surgery.
We may need to discuss this in the future.
Perhaps (4)
might be used for this. The concluding paragraph of Sec. 104 was
probably written for Compensation of the mother and father of
.
However, the way it is written, the wife of the deceased stomach cancer
case (
) might be entitled to additional Compensation over and
above the 25,000. Since the word "may" is used perhaps it will be
at the discretion of the Secretary.
with regard to supplemental funding, as of now it would appear
that we will have the following additional numbers to consider for
Compensation.
Possible hypothyroid people — maybe 8, thyroid surgery 2.
If you wish to cover. possible future developments perhaps up to a year
from now, one might guess at 10 more.
