authorized to proceed with the project.
On 27 February 1957 the AEC informed CINCPACFLT by dispatch
that as a result of the evaluation of recent radiobiological resurveys of
RONGELAP and adjacent islands it was determined that the RONGELAP
people could be safely returned to their home atoll; the High Commissioner of the Trust Territories had concurred in this decision; and
CINCPACFLT was requested to implement previously approved plans.
The AEC responsibility was defined as supervision of the services of the
AEC Contractor for construction; the provision of emergency radio facilities
on RONGELAP to the specifications of the Trust Territory Government,
at a cost of approximately $1,500; and annual medical inspection of the
people originally removed from RONGELAP.
