Dear Dr. Conard:
Thank you for taking the time from what must be a very busy
schedule to provide for the Committee a rough summary of the
survey.
I would also like to ask for your further assistance regarding ~
two matters. The first concerns the $16,000 which you said
you had requested for the people of Utirik, for their inconve-
nience.

It was my understanding that the AEC had approved this
Money and it had been sent to the Trust Territory via the Department of the Interior. A check with the Distad's Office and
the Finance Officer in the Marshall Islands District shows no
such money. A further inquiry today with the Department of ‘lealth
Services and the Director of Finance of the Trust Territory here
on Ssipan also yields no informaticn as to the whereabouts or
Status of this money. Consequently, I wonder if you could contact
someone in the AEC who knows about this sum and its disposition.
The Director of Finance, Mr. Ronald Peterson suggested that it may
have been approved by the AEC, but that it had never been requested
by either the Trust Territory or the Department of the Interior.
Please understand that this is not a request by the Committee for
the money, but rather a request to know what is the status of the
money.
