A UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION WASHINGTON 25, D. C. WV 407 197 October 1, 1954 Dear Mr. Smith: This is to inform you that. the Commission has authorized a wv: change in the reporting requirements for isotopes obtained from AEC facilities for export. The modified statement will require the applicant "to furnish the U. 5S. Atomic Energy Commission upon request reports of the results of use of these materials." The previously authorized statement requires reporting “upon request, or in any event at intervals of nct more than one year," Radioisotopes are most frequently exported either for routine medical therapy or as functional parts of industrial equipment, such as thickness gages or radiographic sources, which are used for routine contrel. Annual progress reports on such routine uses serve no useful purpose. In the modified statement the AIC retains the rrivilege of requesting reports on work done with isotopes that appears to be of particular significance to isotope research or utilisation. On or about October h, 1954, we intend to inform the official representative of each country participating in the program for international distribution of isotopes of the change in reporting requirements. All other requirements in the program remain the same. Sincerely yours, Chairman Mr. Gerard Smith opecial Assistant to the Secretary of State Department of State a< uu ARY REPRODUCED AT THE DWIGHT D.
