In GroupITI,

one woman was in the second trimester. No abnormality was detected. Fetal movements were
unaffected in the individual in the third tri-

mester. The hematologic changes of the preg-

nant womenare listed in Table 2.6. Two individuals in the first trimester had a marked depression of platelets but at no time was there
any vaginal bleeding. So far, the exposure to
radiation has not had a deleterious effect on
pregnancy. At the 12 month reexamination all

of the above women had delivered. One baby
was born dead; the others were normal. Inthe

Special Examination of Eyes

At 3 ano 6 Montus an ophthalmologist examined the eyes of all exposed individuals (10).

Nolesions ascribable to ionizing radiation were
seen. At 12 monthsslit lamp examinutions and
photographic recordings of the cornea and lens
were made on nonexposed, and on the Rongelap
people. Theincidence ofocular lesions was not
different in the two groups (11).
