Dear Dr. Bugher:
I would like to take the liberty to ask your
help with the following problem,
We have, during the last years, workedijn
this Institute on the study of the biological synthesis
of cholesterol with the help of radioactive carbon,
[In
the course of these investigations it has become quite
important to procure comparatively large amounts of cl4
squalene.
While we are able to make comparatively small
amounts of this substance without great difficulties,
larger amounts are not easily available.
It came into
my mind, therefore, whether the A.E.C. may not have-the
possibility to give us livers from sharks caught after
the tests in the Pacific, provided that the radioactivity
in these organs is at least to a part due to cl
being
incorporated,
Any help which you could give us with this
problem would be greatly appreciated,

Yours very sincerely,

Erwin Schwenk,
