Rasmussen, Contracts & Bio-Med Activities Dear Sir: We are enclosing a copy of the letter dated 9 March 1967 from Colonel Hugh W. Webb, Defense Atomic Support Agency, and a copy By this letter, the Defense Atomic Support Agency of our reply. indicated that the agreements for the islands of Kapingamarangi, Kusaie, Wotho, Ujelang, Rongelap and Utirik would be discontinued as of June 30, 1967, We have had a query from the District Administrator, Marshalls, advising that the Atomic Energy Commission is occupying two sites on Rongelap. One, at the end of the island is the abandoned Rad Safe site and one in the center of the island contains a dwelling, laboratory, and eating and sleeping quarters for the annual Atomic Energy Commission medical survey team, The District Administrator has asked us to ascertain what arrangements have been made for the land rental payments for the AEC medical survey site, We will appreciate your advice as to whether or not we may consider the use of both sites on Rongelap as terminated or if the medical survey site is still required and, if so, whether or not any arrangements have been or should be made with the landowners for past and continued use of that site, Sincerely yours, é f , yf “e JL. os Re K.
