Conardi** On Merch 1, 1954, native inhabitants of several atells in the Marshal Islands were exposed accidentally to fallout radiation following the experimental detonation of a lerge thermonuclear device at Bikini Island. The heaviest fallout occurred on Rongelap Island, downvind and about 100 miles east of Bikini.
