ENEWETAK AND BIKINI LAGOONS
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE
Lawrence Livermore Laboratory (LLL) has DOE-sponsored programs in
the Marshall Islands involving the sampling, méasurement, and
cycling characteristics of radionuclides in soil, water and biota.
These investigations are aimed at producing results which will
better enable the United States Government to rehabilitate
Marshall Island Atolls for the safe use by their former residents.

DESCRIPTION OF MISSION
At Enewetak Atoll the lagoon bottom sediment sampling work begun
in April will be completed.
The R. V. Liktanur II will serve
as a work boat and will provide quarters and Subsistence to the
scientists.

Bikini sampling will be performed similarly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Dr. Vic Noshkin will be the Party Chief.
