Commanding Officer, USS MONTICELLO (LSD-35) It is noted with pleasure that USS MONTICELLO has accepted: (a) 33 pallets/21,455 pounds/1,625 cubic feet/41 measured tons of Handclasp material for delivery to Eniwetok. (b) ™ 116 pallets/96,105 pounds/5,750 cubic feet/144 measured tons ‘ Aw of Handclasp material for delivery to Kwajalein. 2. ra x The cooperation of all those involved in arranging space and loading of this material is sincerely appreciated. Of particular note was the Dal ezh/ efforts of Lieutenant Junior Grade J. R. Moore. It is this type of "can do" spirit that ensures the timely delivery of greatly needed Handclasp materials to major overseas commands for distribution to hospitals, clinics, universities, etc., where they can provide the greatest benefit. 3. The value of this combined shipment for Kwajalein and Eniwetok is estimated conservatively at $208,000. No value can be placed on the efforts and goodwill of persons and/or companies who collected and donated this material. Inasmuch as this represents a trust in the Navy by persons donating this material, it is of utmost importance that all possible steps be taken to safeguard the shipment from damage, loss, or pilferage while in transit. Project Handclasp material is U. S. Government property. To ensure proper accountability of the material at the port of debarkation, it is requested that standard supply procedures be utilized in turning the material over to the proper representative of Eniwetok and Kwajalein. It is suggested that a copy of the documents Y received from the Project Handclasp representative in San Diego be signed by the Eniwetok and Kwajalein representatives and retained for your records. 4. All Handclasp material requires covered/secure storage. Please be assured that the efforts involved in handling this material are deeply appreciated and that you have contributed significantly to furthering the U. S.
