WASTE MANAGEMENT STUDY
The Chairman noted item 6 in your Information Report
74-21 and expressed concern about the Weldon Springs
and other sites that AEC may already have turned over
to other uses that are still contaminated. She di-
Seuneeee
rected that a consideration of all contaminated sites,
including those already turned over to other uses and
others for which we are not now responsible, be included in our waste management review. The question
ie what are AEC's legal responsibilities, what should
we do from a public relations viewpoint, what is it
feasible for us to do, what are the budgetary
implications, etc.?
She would like a separate review of the situation at
Eniwetok. She understands that DOD has the responsibility for cleaning up Eniwetok under AEC supervision.
She would like a memorandum from DMA setting out the
current status of the Eniwetok clean up operation,
the respective responsibilities of DOD and AEC, and
projected actions thereon .
