the deeper waters of the lagoon.

Fresh and brackish water algae were col-

lected from a well and from a concrete cistern found near the village on
Rongelap Island.

Samples of two species of algae, Halimeda and Caulerpa,

were taken from all islands visited and other species were taken whenever

found.

Samples of marine sand were taken near the algae collecting loca-

tions.

The radioactivity found in the algae for the first five collections is presented in detail in Appendix Table VII of UWFL-42.
