Weather: (Runit) Rains. 1" max. average 0.31 mr/hr. Island by “M" boat for Two members of the U. of Hawaii E.M.B.L. crew went along to work on their special problems. Welander & Donaldson collected fish north of the island with very good success. convict surgeon Large numbers of big goat fish and fish were collected--no groupers were captured -~-gray shark present. Palumbo collected land plants and algae. Plants and soils were obtained on the lagoon side of the Cactus crater. Algae were collected from the edges of Cactus and LaCrosse craters as well as the small deep crater. Lagoon collections of algae from a coral head near south end of island, Algae collected from the channel about 300 yards south of the island. Lowman--(2) dock site. of water. clams, rats obtained about 200 yards north of the Clams collected from new coral growth in 20+ feet Many fish were seen about the coral head. five large cucumbers, snails obtained. Seven Area had been destroyed and new growths were evident everywhere.
