The primarynission of Search and Rescue (SAR)is to render all possibleassistanceto effect the rescueand evacuationof personnelwho have sufferedaccidentsor casualties. It includes assistanceand rescue operations,appropriatedispositionof rescuedpersomel, distresscommunicationproceduresand distress flight control. It does not includesalvageoperations. b. Rescue operat~onsrequireclear understandingand close cooperation in operationalproceduresamong Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and other governmentalagencies.
