May 16, the Secretary of Defense repiied that DOD has a
requirement for the srea as an addition to its Facific Missile
Range and that ALO would be centacted in the near future to
make arrangements for the transfer “which we hope can de
effective on July 1, 1960."
In an effort to effect the transfer as quickly as possible,
preliminary mestings vare held cu May 23 aad 24, at Albuquerqus
and Los Angeles, vith representatives from AEC aad Holmes aad
Narver in attendance. Another meeting is scheduled for May
1960 at the Pacific Missile Range Headquarters, Point Mugs,
California, with participation by AERC, Eolmes and Narver and
DOD.
