6. AEC 483/47 - Film on Operation IVY (See minutes of
Meeting 939)
Under consideration was a report by the Directors o
Classification and Information Services, recommending in
part that the Commission determine that the information
‘
disclosed in the deleted version of the "Operation IVY"
<
Ww
film may be published without adversely affecting the common
defense and security.
Mr. Beckerley observed that the film
(
shown to the Commissioners at Meeting 939
which had been
contained certain
information which it would be necessary to declassify
formally before it could be shown on December 14 as now
proposed.
Concerning the general public release of the
‘
film, Mr. Salisbury said that this matter had been discussed
we oe
with members of the Military Liaison Committee but that
y
apparently they had not determined their position on this
matter.

After further discussion,
the Commission:
a. DETERMINED that the information disclosed in
IVY", which was screened at Commission Meeting 939
J
on November 12, may be published without adversely
affecting the common defense and security;
oa
b. NOTED that no information remains in the film
which would give any indication as to the nature of
the thermonuclear reaction,
or to the manner in.
which it 18 brought about;
c. NOTED that this film will first be shown to the
forthcoming Mayors! Conference and that it will be
marked "Official Use Only" for that occasion;
ad. NOTED that the MLC will be informed of this
action by appropriate letter; and
e. NOTED that the question of the public release
of the film would be considered at a later meeting.
