formation of the advisory group was of particular importance in the spring
of 1978.

The 1974 cleanup guidance and planning was based on the hazards

of plutonium in soil.

However,

in 1978, the overall concern for transuranium

contamination had become more significant based on EPA guidance under development for a national standard on exposures to transuranium elements in the
soil.

The report of one of the first advisory group meetings established

in greater detail the criteria for the case-by-case cleanup where contamination concentrations were within the 40 to 400 pCi/g range.
For a complete file which shows the charter, the findings and reports
of each meeting of the advisory committee, contact should be made with
Dr. Bruce Wachholtz, Division of Operational and Environmental Safety,

DOE.

be available in FC DNA files.
