Dear John:

It was a pléasant surprise to receive your telephone

call last Thursday.

I shail be in the Branch on January

28th and February 16th as you requested.

+n regard to Al's December 31, 1958 letter to you

regarding the annoucement abcut ESBL that was written
by Bob Hiatt I have nothing to add.
I am in full agree-

ment with his comments.

He has stated the original

operaticnal plan for the laboratory very clearly.

I

an pleased to see that he is of the opinion we should
ecntinue this plan.
in brief, his recommendations

are scunad and should

be

carrié€d.out.

Later today + will send ycu and Al my comments

ana rscommencations as to the Chipman laboratory. I
believe they will be suca tuat botn you and Al can live
with them.

It snows here every day and is becoming increasingly
difficult to drive.
Jn this clinate it is not a question
of living but of survivine.

Cordailly yours,
