MEMORANDUM FOR The Chairman, U. S. Atomic Energy Commission
SUBJECT:

Operation REDWING

1. The action of the Atomic Energy Commission in approving
a series of atomic tests at the Pacific Proving Ground commencing
1 May 1956 is noted.
The Department of Defense desires to assure
the Atomic Energy Commission of the Department's full support of
Operation REDWING as requested in your letter of October 17,

1955.*

2. The present schedule of shots, as indicated by Revision
No. } dated 11 October 1955, to CTG 7.1 General Concept No. 1-55,

J3-51, appears to satisfy such Department of Defense requirements
in t:e weapons effects field as are feasible of achievement during
this operation.
3. Preliminary planning on the weapons effects programs is
now complete and the operational planning phase in which
Department of Defense agencies are now engaged appears to be
progressing satisfactorily.
