PLAN FOR MARSHALL ISLANDS RESEARCH VESSEL

At a meeting with Dr. Liverman on June 13 it was agreed that Drs. Forster
and Marks would develop a plan for the acquisition and use of 4 research
vessel to serve several AEC program needs in the Marshall Islands.
These programs and thefr approximate operating levels in FY~74 are:

Eniwetok and Bikini Radiological Surveys

Medical Surveys of the Marshallese

They will present this plan at a meeting with Dr. Liverman during
the week of July 9. Representatives of DMA (Gay), DOS (Deal), and
inyolved contractors BNL (Conard) and LLL (Noshkin)will be invited
, to participate.
The plan will:
(1. anticipate ship costs not to exceed 100 K/year;
2. identify acquisition, modification and operating costs
for candidate vessels and discuss their capability for
meeting program requirements;
3. include specific budgets for individual programs in
FY¥-74, FY-75 and following years; and
&. recommend administrative arrangement for ship operation
and overall program coordination.
