In support of our objective ta determine the feasibility of the
:
development of Taongi as a test alte Mr. Walter Gibbins hasbeen
conducting a detailed survey. In the past week we have met with
Dr. Felt and Commander Johnson of 7,1 to discuss this generel
problem with them. It has been decided to make a coordinated
study under 7.1 auspices of the Taorigi, Bikini, Eniwetok system.
In order to develop tho feasibility of the use of Taongi assistance
is required from the Task Force to obtain field data on tides,
beaches, and channels, The Serlpps Institute is willing to make
|
some of the water movement studies but require financial assistance
anounting to about $18,000. The detailed proposal is attached.
In addition, to clear a channel for surll boats it is proposed that
8 UT Unit of the U. 3. Navy be asked te participate in the survey.
