Dear Tom:
WE ‘ve had a busy week, and have done lots, as Harvey has probably tolf
you. He left here Tuesday afternoon to catch a plane either that night or
early the next morning. All went well - Gordon says due to good Rad.8 afe,
bat FOP U also did their bit. The weather actually was the greatest cooperator
for all concerned.
C1d alpha raised its ngly head over here.
The phanes were
cont aminated a bit, surface counts as high as 500 c/m/pee wee probe area.
However, tests on air contamination during decontamination gave an average
exposure level of approximately 5 d/m/cu.m., with a peak basting only a few
minutes of 20 d/m/en. m. 80 the unrest was quieted. Pe ople
going in to
200-300 ft. were comming back with booties reading 200-300 c/nfppee wee probe.
They were wearing full protective clothing anyway, so no fea r here.
Ernie Pinson and his crew did the alpha counting on the planes. They were
requested to by the decon crews, this was fine with us. We got the results,
and knowing Ernie we are sure they are right. Incidently the man who wes lost
was one of Ernie's people, his right hand man on this job and a very good friend,
Ernie is really feeling the loss,
Thursday was a busy day and the winds cooperated. It was a bit sticky
in the middle of the night as to whe ither or not the winds at 20-30, 000Nf¢.
would back more to the north, or hold to the east.
They held and all was fine.
We're plugging ahong in good shape. Hope to see you before the summer
is ever. My notebook came through, thank you very much,
Yours truly,
‘
