all hospital discharges.

During the years 1975-1977, 49,888 cases

of influenza was reported In the TTPI.
CEREBROVASCULAR DISEASE
Cerebrovascular disease is a chronic ailment which was the eighth
leading cause of death for the period of 1975-1977.

Sometimes referred

to as stroke, this disease afflicts primarily the elderly.

The

mortality rate for cerebrovascular disease for the period of 1975-1977

was 15.4 deaths per 100,000 population.

This rate is lower than either

the U.S. rate, 91.8 deaths per 100,000 population or the Guam and
Arerican Samoa rates of 35 and 51 per 100,000.
