The U.S. Government transmitted a solatium of $2,000,000 to the Japanese Government in compensation for losses incurred by Japanese nationals as a result of U.S. nuclear tests in the Pacific in the spring of 1954. How the funds were to be apportioned and distributed was left to the discretion of the Japanese Government.
