C. 20240 Deer Stew: In accordence with your letter of December 7, 1966, and my reply of acember 20, 1965, the Atomic Energy Commission in collaboration with the Trust Territories sent a team to the Bikini Atoll to make measure- ments of the external radiation dose rate and to collect samples of soil and biota, the analysis of which would permit an estimate of the azard of internal dose. The survey was conducted in April-May 1957. Analysis of the radiation measurements and of the collected samples is now complete and reports of the results have been prepared. Under the guidance of Dr. John 8. Totter, Director of the Division of Biolosy and to be held in May 1968, at which the members of gether with a group of expert consultants, will cevelop a recommendation to the AEC with regard Nedicine, a meeting is the survey team, toreview the results and to the feasibility, von a radiation standpoint, of the return of the natives to the Bikini toll. When the recommendation of the above group has been received by the Commission, I will be in touch with you again. _ ec: . fee - Cordially, Secretariat (2) <——__- GM (2) AGMRD DOS BMA (Rizred) Coun 1.
