your impressions of the thyroid lesion in Janet, one of the women
exposed to fallout radiation in 1954 on Utirik Island in the Marshalls.

In view of the controversial diagnosis we decided to call the lesion
premalignant or cancer in situ and consider it a malignancy for statistical purposes. Considering it a cancer the statisticians tell me that
it is extremely unlikely that two cases of cancer in the Utirik group
(158 people) would occur by chance (one other cancer had occurred 5
years ago). The case is also important since the Marshallese are being
