In contrast to the first meeting of the Committee, the Soviet representative was amicable and cooperative. He introduced only one slightly discordant political note in his effort te include M. Joliot-Curie as one of the evening lecturers at the Conference. When opposition developed to this, he did not By Wa, _CNLEDate press his propcsal. I mention this marked change of ,attitude since it may have political significance, and may have been adopted by the Soviets to underline a chinge of view on their part. 2. The Soviet contribution of 4bstracts for the Conference represents the most important lifting of the Iron Curtain on Soviet scientific progress and development in recent years. It gives us, for the first time, a firm idea of where the Soviets Stand in nuclear research.
