14. Army Use of Eniwetok
Mr, Fislds said the Army intended to begin testing
satellites @Quring the carly part of 1958 and had requested
permission to use Enitetok as a launching site.
The Commissioners
said they wished to coopereute fully in this project and requested
the General Manager to offer all possible assistance ineluding
the use of Eniwetok.
Mr.
Strauss said he believed this project
wags of such importance that if wo1i.d warrant delay or interference
with the scheduled weapons tests
(Operation RARDTACK) if this
should be necessary in order to accommodate the satellite
project,
