LOGISTICAL SUPPORT OF AEC BIOMEDICAL RESEARCH PROGRAM IN THE PACIFIC AREA
During the past six months discussions have been held among representatives
of the Nevada Operations Office, San Francisco Operations Office and the
Division of Biology and Medicine to consider the feasibility of transfer
of administration of certain activities in support of biomedical research
projects in the Pacific area from SAN to NVOO.
Specifically, these include
the logistical support needs for. the ecological and the medical surveys
at Rongelap and for the Eniwetok Marine Biological Laboratory.
The research
portions of these projects are administered through other offices and
contractors.
On the basis of these discussions, it is my understanding that such a
transfer is desirable, and I ti:.cefore request your office to assist the
. Biology and Medicine Program ir shis manner, with an effective date of
July 1, 1965. The San Francisco Office is prepared to provide the
administrative procedural inforration necessary for an order by transition.
While the financial commitments for such support are subject to further
review, it is our intention to include funds in the initial FY 1966
financial plan for the Nevada Operations Office at a level mutually
acceptable to NVOO and DBM. For your information, these support activities
are financed in the current fiscal year through SAN at a level of
approximately $30,000.
My staff and I would be pleased to discass these programs in greater
detail as may be necessary.
Your assisvance is greatly appreciated.
